A Q &A with Laura Kaeppeler, who was crowned Miss America in 2012 and is originally from Kenosha.

What’s the best locally owned restaurant to eat like a local, and catch a glimpse of Kenosha’s personality?

When I’m home in Kenosha, among the restaurants that I have to go and visit are:

The Spot Drive-In. Everyone knows I love this place, because I used to work there. So if you want a refreshing root beer float in a frosty glass mug, this is the place. It’s quick too, just drive in and drive out! So check out The Spot Drive-In when you get a chance.

I also love to go to Villa D' Carlo Restaurant, which is in the downtown area. This is also a locally owned restaurant serving great Italian food. They have delicious pizza, and it's right near the lakefront so you can go outside and on the patio, have your pizza and then walk around downtown and visit the beautiful lakefront.

Museums, art galleries, theatres, a ride on the Lakefront Trolley, or spending a day at the beach... what are some fun things to do that every visitor to Kenosha should experience?

The downtown area has a lot to offer. The lakefront is right there, and it’s gorgeous. There are lots of walking paths along the lake that you can visit too. 3rd Avenue has beautiful, old historic homes that lead right to the lakefront, and you can stop at the parks along the way.

I love to take the Lakefront Trolley because I have little kids, which we all enjoy.

And if I was visiting again, I’d definitely go to the lakefront because you’re right on the water, it’s a beautiful place and you can grab some food and make a whole day out of your stay there.

Do you prefer shopping at the Pleasant Prairie outlets, or the boutique shops in the downtown district?

The outlets are great because they have a lot to offer, so if you’re looking for something specific, you might want to head out there.

The downtown boutiques are really great because they’re locally owned, smaller businesses and you can usually find some really fun, unique and authentic things that you can’t find anywhere else.

I’ll be back in town on August 29, 2021 for a concert at the Sesquicentennial Bandshell. I’ll see you there! Find details HERE about Laura Kaeppeler Presents “Celebrate Kenosha” Event, a Free Summer Concert.
