A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak helicopter crew stationed in Cold Bay conducted a maritime medevac Thursday morning, according to a statement from the Coast Guard.
Coast Guard watchstanders in Anchorage received reports at 8:30 p.m. Wednesday of a man aboard the F/V Alaska Victory suffering from respiratory distress about 130 miles north of Cold Bay.
An MH-60 Jayhawk crew was launched from Cold Bay and arrived on scene at 3:30 a.m. Thursday. The aircrew hoisted the man from the ship and flew him to Cold Bay, where he was transferred to a LifeMed crew and transported to a higher level of care.
Lt. Joseph Wineke, a 17th Coast Guard District command duty officer, commended good communication between all parties for the medevac.
“We were able to conduct the medevac efficiently so the patient could receive a higher level of medical care,” Wineke said.
