Another BGSU Student Indicted In Hazing Death

Another former fraternity member at Bowling Green State University has been indicted in the death of a pledge during an alleged hazing ritual.

A grand jury indicted 22-year-old Benjamin Boyers of Sylvania Wednesday on charges that include involuntary manslaughter, tampering with evidence, and eight counts of misdemeanor hazing.

Boyers was initially indicted in April on several misdemeanor charges, but the charges were dismissed.

Eight current or former members of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity at Bowling Green now have been indicted on criminal charges ranging from involuntary manslaughter to hazing in the death of Stone Foltz of Delaware, Ohio. The 20-year-old was found unconscious by a roommate after a fraternity event in March during which he drank an entire bottle of bourbon, and died three days later.

An investigation conducted by an outside law firm hired by the school said fraternity members who organized the event were well aware of how dangerous it could be, going so far as setting up trash cans for vomiting and telling pledges to let professors know they would likely not be in class the next day.

A native of Chicago, naturalized citizen of Cincinnati and resident of Columbus, Alison attended Earlham College and the Ohio State University. She has equal passion for Midwest history, hockey and Slavic poetry.
