Arguably the offensive line is the most important position when looking at Indiana’s success this season. Setting up the running game and providing the needed protection to allow the passing attack to succeed will be key to adding tallies to the win column. It appears that they, along with transfer Stephen Carr are off to a good start at camp, at least according to offensive coordinator Nick Sheridan.

“They’re stronger. They’re bigger. They’re in better shape. They’ve had a consistent offseason to work on training,” said Sheridan.

Also making waves in camp is USC transfer Stephen Carr. Sheridan had high praise for what they’ve been seeing from Carr.

“Real simple answer. He makes people miss and he breaks tackles. When you look at trying to get people the football, you’re looking for guys who can do that,” said Sheridan.

After Sampson James entered the transfer portal for Purdue, Carr is expected to make his way up the depth chart and likely be starting behind quarterback Michael Penix, Jr. come opening day. Sophomore Tim Baldwin and junior David Ellis are Carr’s primary competition for the starting role when the Hoosiers head to Iowa on Sept. 4 for the season opener.
