Dallas Cowboys pick Oklahoma OT Tyler Guyton in Round 1 of 2024 NFL draft. What to know

Meet ex-Dallas Cowboy Jay Novacek during event for his craft whiskey at Juanito's Liquor

El Pasoans have a chance to meet three-time Super Bowl champion Jay Novacek and buy his whiskey Friday at Juanito's Liquor Store in the Lower Valley.

Novacek will be promoting his first whiskey, "Novacek 84 Proof," and possibly signing bottles at the store, from 4 to 7 p.m. at 7810 North Loop Drive.

Novacek was a tight end for six seasons for the Dallas Cowboys and is considered one of the reasons the team won three Super Bowls in four years. He played with contemporaries Troy Aikman, Emmitt Smith and Michael Irvin.

Novacek released his own craft whiskey in March.

"I've always thought I should have been born in the 1800s, riding in, opening the doors and saying, ‘Give me a bottle.’ To have something that I can relate to fans with because normally they just relate to me with football, but now I can relate to them because they enjoy the taste of a good whiskey,” he said in a news release.

Jay Novacek, a five-time Pro Bowl tight end who first played for the St. Louis/Phoenix Cardinals and then the Dallas Cowboys, signed bottles of his new 84 Proof bourbon whiskey on July 31 at FILO Liquors in Abilene. With each purchase, he signed his name and number in silver on the bottle. He also posed for photos and at 6 foot 4, he dwarfed most of his fans.

Novacek launched the brand in Texas first and it seems to be selling well. The label has a photo of Novacek in a cowboy hat and his signature on the bottom left. The number 84 on his jersey in the photo refers to the number he wore playing for the NFL and at the University of Wyoming in Laramie.
