James McCann is still out with back spasms.

Prior to today’s series finale against the Giants, the Mets have recalled catcher Chance Sisco from Triple-A. The newest Met will sport number 77. To make room on the roster, New York has optioned reliever Yennsy Díaz to Syracuse.

Prior to last night’s game, the Mets found out they would be without James McCann due to back spasms, as his discomfort was caught by SNY’s cameras prior to game time. McCann will once again be unavailable today, as he was seen limping at the park and holding crutches. Patrick Mazeika, who was recently recalled after Tomás Nido hit the IL with a sprained left thumb, started last night, and will get the nod again today in an afternoon affair.

The Mets claimed Sisco off waivers from the Orioles back in June. Prior to getting DFA’ed, the catcher was hitting .154/.247/.185 with a 27 wRC+ and a -0.5 fWAR in 23 games. This comes after the 26-year-old posted a career-best 113 wRC+ in 26 games last season. In Triple-A Syracuse, Sisco hit .208/.322/.468 in 26 games. Díaz, whom the Mets sent down today, pitched to a 4.15 ERA and a 5.25 FIP in 21.2 innings across multiple stints for New York.
