J.C. Jeffries, age 76, passed away peacefully at his home August 7, 2021. He was surrounded by his children and wife of thirty years, Renee.

Jeff Carroll “J.C.” Jeffries was born on November 23, 1944 in Freeport, Texas. He is survived by his spouse, Renee Jeffries of Madisonville; son, Chris Jeffries of Austin; daughter, Vicki Morris & husband, Troy of Madisonville and Meghan Howe-Jeffries of Madisonville; brothers, Robert Jeffries of Tennessee and Billy Jeffries of Midway; five grandchildren, Trent, Wes & Jayci Morris, Christian Jeffries and Kasey Benton and husband, Matt and great-grandchild, Lane Benton. J.C. is also survived by his mother-in-law and father-inlaw, Sue Ann & Homer Howe.

Those preceding J.C. in death were both of his parents, William M. & Bertie (Carroll) Jeffries; brothers, Freeman, James, Joe, Macel and Jimmie; sisters, Yvonne and Violet and son, Matt.

J.C. lived most of his life in Madison County. He was a rancher and worked in the oil fields. He loved coon hunting and was a horse trader and “Perspective Life Coach.” J.C. would give the shirt off of his back, but if anyone stole from him they would pay the price. He especially loved children and was a tender-hearted man.

J.C. loved his family and worked hard to give them what he thought they wanted, but also, there was never time for feelings or crying or sleeping—work was to be done!!

J.C. had many sayings, one of which was, “You can sleep when you’re dead!” He loved and protected a good dog with a loud mouth, a.k.a, “A Bark.” He would have no problem riding the hair off of a horse. Coon hunting and telling lies was always a fun time with all the guys at the club, and they would all agree the story happened just like J.C. said it did. He loved people and “stirring the pot,” and would laugh very much and get the wives upset when he told stories about their husbands.

Funeral services for J.C. were held 10 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2021 at Madisonville Funeral Home. Kris Kelso, Joel Douget and Jeff Reynolds officiated the service. Interment followed in Mt. Tabor Cemetery.
