Like Nine Perfect Strangers? Read All of Liane Moriarty's Bestselling Novels

The newest Moriarty book-turned-television show, Nine Perfect Strangers takes place at a wellness retreat, where nine guests gather to work on themselves. However, the guests become confounded by Tranquillum House's owner who has secrets of her own. The guests must decide whether to buy into the premise of the retreat, or leave the property altogether. 

Perhaps the most famous of Moriarty's mysteries is the delicious Big Little Lies. Like the book's television adaptation, the story revolves around a group of Monterey, California mothers and what could either be a murder or an accident. Big Little Lies is a deep dive into the world of these women—their children, stepchildren, husbands, ex-husbands, and the everyday origins of major ruptures.  

Cecilia's husband wrote her a letter, to be opened upon his death. The problem, however, is that Cecilia finds the note, which contains life-changing information, while her husband is still very much alive. And, the letter's contents affect not just Cecilia's own family, but a few other women in her midst. In 2017, it was announced that Blake Lively would star in a film adaptation of the book, but progress on the project is uncertain. 

Fraught family dynamics are Moriarty's bread and butter and, in Truly Madly Guilty, she tackles three seemingly perfect couples. Naturally, not everything is as idyllic as it may appear from the outside. The families' relationships both internally and with each other are forever altered after a seemingly innocent barbecue. Moriarty uses her token suspenseful narrative to slowly lead readers to what actually happened that day. 

What Alice Forgot falls into that particular category of amnesia-based romances—think The Vow and 50 First Dates. In the novel, Alice comes to on the floor of a gym to find that she remembers nothing about the past decade. As far as she knows, she is 29, pregnant with her first child, and in love with her husband. She wakes up to three children, an impending divorce, and strained relationships across the board. The book follows Alice as she figures out what happened.

In The Last Anniversary Moriarty once again introduces a large cast of characters in a small, beachside town, weaving their stories together around love affairs and a mystery. The story begins with Sophie Honeywell, who inherits a house on Scribbly Gum, a fictional Australian island. There, she must contend with her newly married ex-boyfriend and a slew of family members, each with their own agendas and, of course, secrets. 

Moriarty's first novel is a family affair, charting the 33rd year of the Kettle triplets, three beautiful women each in a different phase of her life. Between romances, marriages, children, and careers, the women try to cope with their problems both as individuals and as a unit. Moriarty noted that the way these women interact with each other and view themselves in relation to their sisters was drawn from some of her own experience—she is the eldest of five girls. 

The Hypnotist's Love Story has all the makings of a classic Moriarty mystery. An inherited beachfront home? Check. A romantic lead with a mysterious past? Check. A career-driven female protagonist? Check. Add in that said lead character is a professional hypnotherapist and her love interest is being stalked by his ex-girlfriend and you've got the makings for the perfect, suspenseful beach read. 

Moriarty's newest novel has not yet been released, but it is available for pre-order and will come out September 14. As per the description, the mystery will revolve around a central question: "If your mother was missing, would you tell the police? Even if the most obvious suspect was your father?" The four adult children at the core of the novel must grapple with this predicament, plus their mother's disappearance in itself. Add in the surprise arrival of a mysterious stranger, who showed up right when their mother went missing, and the plot certainly thickens.
