MCCURTAIN COUNTY, Okla. (KOKH) - Most schools in Oklahoma have been open for less than a week and already four schools have had to switch to close due to an increase in COVID-19 cases.

Two schools lie in the far southeastern part of the state: McCurtain County.

Eagletown Public Schools posted an alert on their website announcing a shutdown until August 23.

"PLEASE SPREAD THE WORD," the post read. "Due to the lack of teachers and overwhelming number of staff/students who have tested positive over the weekend, we will CLOSE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE WEEK."

Battiest Public Schools, also located in McCurtain County, posted on its Facebook page last Friday an announcement about closing the school. Parents were able to pick up packets for students on Monday.

The district will re-evaluate going back to in-person learning at the end of the week.

Chelsea Public Schools, located in Rogers County, will be closed through the rest of the week.

Hulbert Public Schools, also near the eastern side of the state, switched to virtual learning for its middle and high schoolers.

Students will go back to in-person learning on Friday, August 20.

It's worth noting that all four school districts are relatively small. The district with the most students out of the four, Chelsea Public Schools, has less than 1,000 students enrolled this year.
