WIBAUX, N.D. - (2:30 p.m.): Current estimated acreage is still 2939. Firelines held Tuesday and through last night. Small portions of trees and fuels inside the fire lines flared up Tuesday afternoon.

UPDATE (8/17 at 3 p.m.): The Dorothy Draw Wildfire that sparked in Wibaux County, Montana on Monday has already burned nearly 3,000 acres.

The Wibaux Volunteer Fire Department said high winds have caused the fire to jump multiple fire lines, spreading into Fallon County, burning 2,900 acres in difficult terrain, and is zero percent contained. State, federal, and several surrounding counties are responding. The Badlands Search and Rescue upgraded the fire to a “Level 3 Incident” to request additional resources.

The Beach Volunteer Fire Department Chief said the fire is burning southwest of Wibaux in the pine unit area and creating a lot of smoke.

There are, so far, no reports of injuries or evacuations.

ORIGINAL STORY: According to the Wibaux Volunteer Fire Department, about 2,000 acres have burned as of Tuesday morning.

An aerial survey of the Dorothy Draw fire shows it’s burning south of Wibaux in the pine unit area of Wibaux County.

High winds have caused the fire to jump multiple fire lines. State, federal, and several surrounding counties.
