Kleinschmidt adds that the move, when it does occur, won't be related to performance, but rather, a factor of Opening Day roster construction. The offseason addition swung a blistering bat all spring, and given the typically hitter-friendly conditions of the Pacific Coast League, Park could well put together a favorable enough body of work in the minors to earn a quick promotion to the big-league club.

Park has encountered little success against big-league arms during his 68-game majors stint with the Yankees and Pirates, yet he's been Oakland's best all-around hitter this spring. Park came into camp as a non-roster invitee after signing a minor-league deal in November, but Andujar's absence for the next several weeks opens up a spot on the 26-man roster. Park showed excellent plate discipline in the minors, posting an 18.9 percent walk rate across parts of seven seasons, but that's yet to translate into success at the highest level. He may only need a modest step forward at the plate to become a viable big leaguer, as his defensive versatility makes him a good fit for a bench spot, but he doesn't currently do enough to have a firm grip on a 40-man roster spot.
