David Walliams and Sheridan Smith are embarking on a brand-new project where their make-up and costumes have transformed them into completely different people.

Posting a photo to Instagram, David and Sheridan are dressed like fairytale characters – and in fact, that's the look they're going for as they are acting in Hansel & Gretel: After Ever After, a new adaptation of the traditional Brothers Grimm story .

In the photo, Sheridan looks like the perfect "wicked witch", while David is more akin to a troll. Though no details have been announced yet, we know that it will work as a sequel to the source material, but it is unclear what characters Sheridan and David will play in the show.

This new project is due to drop on Sky TV at Christmas, David said in the caption, and many fans are excited to see it air.

One person commented, "Can’t wait! Christmas TV at its best!"

Others were amused by the looks, as one person joked: "Nanny McPhee, is that you?"

Another said, "Real life footage of me on Boxing Day on the left," in reference to David.

This is not the only fairytale project featuring David and Sheridan, as Sky commissioned Jack and The Beanstalk: After Ever After, which premiered last Christmas.

In it, David played the role of the giant and Sheridan played 'the woman with no name', the best giant-slayer in the village, and tells the story of what happened after 'happily ever after'.

After the announcement, Sheridan said: "It's quite fun because I never get to play parts like this, and David always casts me as the baddie and they are the fun parts to play."

"I just love being transformed. There's something very exciting about looking in the mirror and you see something or someone else as an actor," David told Tyla about the costumes, and it's likely no different for his new look for Hansel & Gretel: After Ever After.

David and Sheridan are close friends and colleagues, and have previously worked together in a production of A Midsummer Night's Dream at the Noël Coward Theatre and another Christmas comedy for Sky called Ratburger.
