'Kevin Muscat is on absolute fire' - Former Melbourne Victory coach's impressive start with Yokohama F. Marinos

Australian coach Kevin Muscat has hit the ground running in Japan with new club Yokohama F. Marinos.

On Sunday night he saw his side claim a big 5-1 win against Oita Trinita in the J-League with Marinos dropping just two points since Muscat's arrival.

The former Melbourne Victory coach was brought in to replace new Celtic boss Ange Postecoglou and began his reign with a 3-2 win over Gamba Osaka 12 days ago.

Marinos then had to settle for a 2-2 draw against Shimizu Pulse before bouncing back with a 2-0 win against Nagoya.

In scoring a further five goals on Sunday, Muscat's side have now found the back of the net 12 times in four games under their new coach as he tries to build on the attacking philosophy left behind by Postecoglou.

The Tricolor are undefeated across their past 11 J-League games and currently sit second in the competition - only six points shy of league leaders Kawasaki.

While Muscat has enjoyed a strong start with his new club, he's not getting carried away by the results with his focus on the way they play and the fixtures that await them.

"I think in the end the scoreline is clear. In the first half we were little frustrated with ourselves in the way we were using the ball and in the second half it was a very good performance and it could have been one or two more," Muscat said post-match on Sunday night via Optus Sport.

"Every game now the opponent is changing what they usually do. It's a sign that they feel threatened by us. However, it's not really the most important thing to us what the opponent does.

"We focus on how we want to play football and that's what motivates me. The next game is the most important one, not the 11 behind us."

After lasting just 15 games in charge of Belgian club Sint-Truiden last year, Muscat has started on the right foot in Japan with fans and even a former Socceroo excited by his promising start.

Marinos next face struggling Vegalta Sendai at home in the J-League on Saturday night before travelling to Sagan Tosu four days later.
