Jason Moloney earns unanimous decision win over Joshua Greer

Jason Moloney

Jason Moloney has taken the first step towards another world title fight with a win over Joshua Greer in Oklahoma.

Fighting on the undercard to twin brother Andrew's trilogy bout with Joshua Franco, Jason scored a unanimous decision victory with scores of 98-92, 98-92 and 96-94

It's the Australian's first fight since a seventh round TKO defeat to Nayoa Inoue last year.

The win opens up several potential avenues for another world title tilt in the future, with Greer ranked fifth with the IBF and WBO.

The fight also sees Moloney take home the WBC silver bantamweight title and the 30-year-old says he will chase fights with either WBC champion Nonito Donaire, or WBO titleholder Jon Riel Casimero (Casimero defends his title against Guillermo Rigondeaux later today).

It was an exciting opening three rounds against Greer.

Moloney moved well, but it was Greer who looked to get in close and work on the inside. Moloney was content to use his footwork to stay at range and jabbed well while at distance.

The tenor of the fight changed abruptly in the fourth.

After doing some great work to the body, Moloney landed a big overhand right flush on Greer's chin as the Chicago native jumped in.

A second right hand rattled Greer moments later and suddenly it was Moloney who looked more at home on the inside.

Greer's right eye started to close during the fourth, and wasn't getting any better into the sixth courtesy of Moloney's jab and left hook.

Greer was limited to one-punch attacks through the middle of the bout, but grew more desperate in the closing frames.

Moloney maintained his composure over the final six minutes of the bout, improving his record to 21-2.
