Coronation Street spoilers ahead.

Debbie Webster star Sue Devaney has opened up about the future of her character and Leanne Battersby's rivalry.

The heat at the Bistro will certainly be turned up in the coming weeks, with Debbie and Leanne forced to work together in a professional manner, but it might well prove to be a beautiful relationship once their guards are down.

Asked if Debbie believes they'll make a good team, Devaney told Inside Soap: "I don't think she does, but she wants it to work. Debbie's not frightened to say what she thinks, and she's not worried if people don't like her.

"As long as her business is running as smoothly as it can, then Debbie's happy. And she's actually pleasantly surprised by what a good team she and Leanne make."

Referencing a moment where Debbie and Leanne jointly scald a fish supplier for trying to rip them off, the soap star added: "I think [they] secretly admire each other after that".

Don't expect them to strike up a real friendship, though.

"I don't think Debbie mixes business and pleasure, and she doesn't let many people in," warned Devaney.

Coronation Street airs Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays at 7.30pm and 8.30pm on ITV.
