Milwaukee Brewers Roster Moves: Travis Shaw placed on waivers, per report; Sal Romano elects free agency

The Brewers have a roster crunch going on, and some tough decisions have to be made. Two of those decisions were made this week, and Travis Shaw and Sal Romano, who both are on the outside looking in after the Brewers made some roster decisions this week.

Shaw has been out since he dislocated his shoulder on June 9. He had been on rehab assignment with Nashville, but with the Brewers infield currently loaded, there just wasn’t a place for Shaw to return to. Shaw started the season out hot, going 11-for-37 with 3 home runs and 12 RBI in his first 11 games of the season. However, he cooled considerably after that, and is batting just .191/.279/.337 this season. The Brewers have not announced anything in regards to Shaw, but Peter Gammons reports that Shaw is on waivers and should get a change of scenery.

Meanwhile, another player who is out with the roster crunch is Sal Romano. He was designated for assignment on Tuesday when Jake Cousins returned from his IL stint. According to Tom Haudricourt, Romano cleared waivers and was offered an assignment to Triple-A Nashville, but refused and elected to become a free agent. Romano’s stint with the Brewers was short, pitching in just one game for the team. He appeared in Saturday’s game against the Giants in the 11th inning, and allowed four runs (Three earned) in an inning of work. Romano has also spent time with the Reds and Yankees this season, and will have a chance to catch on with another team before the end of the year.
