South Carolina offensive lineman Jordan Rhodes has entered the transfer portal, according to On3 college football reporter Matt Zenitz. Rhodes, a 6-foot-4, 342-pound redshirt senior, enrolled at South Carolina back in 2017.

South Carolina has a deep and experienced offensive line

Rhodes was not projected as a starter on the Gamecocks offensive front, according to 247Sports’ Hale McGranahan. South Carolina returns four starters on their offensive line and has nine players with starting experience. This buried Rhodes on the depth chart.

In his original recruitment, Rhodes was rated as a three-star prospect. Mississippi State, Missouri, Cincinnati, Georgia State, Louisiana-Monroe, Mercer and Southern Miss all offered Rhodes out of high school in addition to South Carolina.

Rhodes has played in 20 games over his career, including four last season. He started as an offensive guard in 2019. Rhodes initially opted out last season but later re-joined the team later in the year.

Shane Beamer is set to begin his first year as a head coach

After seven stops as an assistant coach since 2000, Beamer now gets his first crack at being a head coach. Most recently, he was an assistant head coach under Lincoln Riley at Oklahoma. Beamer was part of the staff that led saw the Sooners become the highest-scoring offensive in the nation in 2018.

South Carolina last saw the success it is usually accustomed to when it went 9-4 in 2017. They fell to 7-6 in 2018, and have since posted 4-8 and 2-8 records over the previous two seasons. The last two poor seasons resulted in former head coach Will Muschamp being let go.

Now it is up to Beamer to set the Gamecocks in the right direction. He has learned under his father, Frank Beamer, for years, and he has all of the tools necessary to succeed. Even without experience as a head coach, he has been learning under some of football’s best minds throughout his career.
