Country Singer Clare Dunn Alleged Lyft Driver Attacker Arrested

Country singer Clare Dunn recently emotionally recounted the night she says she was assaulted by her Lyft driver. The dispute happened back in June.

Now, the driver allegedly responsible is being charged.

Lyft Driver Arrested from Attack

According to NBC, the Lyft driver was arrested on Tuesday (August 10). Albert Boakye, a 46-year-old male, is being charged with misdemeanor assault due to his actions that night. He was accused of removing Dunn forcefully from the car on Highway 70 South.

The two had argued over a missed turn, which is what led to the violent altercation. He became angry, removed her from the vehicle, and grabbed her by the neck to throw her on the ground.

Dunn spoke out about the incident on social media as well as in an interview with People magazine. She revealed that she had been in the car with a friend originally. That friend was dropped off first and Dunn told the driver she wanted to take a slower route so that she didn’t have to get on the highway.

“Somehow in the scuffle, I thought I called 911, but I didn’t even get the number right. But it was a miracle. They called me back. And when I came to, I was screaming, and I saw headlights,” Clare Dunn said.

Clare Dunn Talks About Assault

Clare Dunn had been spending most of her time at her farm in Colorado. She made a trip out to Nashville where she was working on her upcoming EP “In This Kind of Light.” In the midst of the stress of writing and recording, Dunn took a girl’s trip.

Instead of a fun night out, Dunn ended the night with some minor injuries, including a bruised and bleeding face. The “Get Out” singer emotionally recounted the story and said she regrets not following her intuition. She told the news outlet that both her and her friend had a bad feeling that night.

“As women, we sometimes do that but I think when we have those feelings, they are alarm bells. I remember telling myself that I was overthinking it and I just wanted to go home. That’s all I remember thinking about it and just trying to tell myself it’s fine. I blame myself,” she said.

Clare Dunn shared some lessons from the experience that she hopes can help women in the future. For those using rideshare apps, it’s important to screenshot the information and take a picture of the license plate before getting in the car. All that information is lost once the ride is filed as complete.

Now, the country singer is back home in Colorado. However, she is continuing to open up about the experience, including a video she shared on her TikTok account.

Her EP “In This Kind of Light” comes out on August 13. In July the singer also dropped a popular single, “Holding Out For a Cowboy.”
