FC Cincinnati’s defense held tight for another game while their goal drought was extended to a third consecutive contest in a 0-0 tie against the host New York Red Bulls on Wednesday.
It was the second consecutive scoreless tie for FC Cincinnati, who last scored a goal in a 1-all tie with Atlanta United FC on July 21. FC Cincinnati is now on a 299-minute scoreless streak.
The Red Bulls (5-7-4, 19 points) managed to earn a point in the standings for the sixth time in eight home games (4-2-2). New York rebounded from just its second home loss of the season when it fell 3-2 to the New England Revolution on Saturday.
The teams were essentially even in possession, with New York holding a slight 51-percent advantage. The Red Bulls did have a lopsided advantage in shots: 23-9. They also had four shots on goal to two for FC Cincinnati.
FC Cincinnati goalkeeper Kenneth Vermeer had three saves, while Red Bulls goalkeeper Carlos Miguel Coronel had two saves.
Former FC Cincinnati No. 1 overall draft pick Frankie Amaya came off the bench for the Red Bulls in the 71st minute. Amaya, selected out of UCLA in 2019, requested a trade earlier this season and was sent to the Red Bulls in April.
FC Cincinnati (3-7-6, 15 points), who entered 12th in the 14-team Eastern Conference with 17 goals, was held without a tally for the seventh time this season.
The Red Bulls, who have 20 goals this season, did not score for the fourth time, although two of those have been in their last three games.
FC Cincinnati extended their winless streak to seven games, going 0-2-5 in that stretch. The Red Bulls extended their winless streak to five games, going 0-2-3 in the run.
