MARIES COUNTY, Mo. (KMIZ)

The Maries County sheriff said a drug overdose killed a Rolla man Wednesday night.

Sheriff Chris Heitman wrote on the department's Facebook page that 31-year-old William Ross was found dead in his pickup truck by a woman. Heitman said the department suspects an opiate overdose after deputies and the coroner investigated.

There investigation partially blocked High Gate Road. Heitman said the woman driving the truck found Ross dead after she woke up. The sheriff said both of them had paperwork filled out in the truck to apply for a sober living center.

"If you or a loved one is struggling with opiate addiction, please, do not wait another day," Heitman said. "Get help today!"

A toxicology test will determine the official cause of death.
