Jerry Remy to undergo lung cancer treatment, stepping away from Red Sox broadcast

BOSTON — Longtime Red Sox broadcaster Jerry Remy has announced that he will be stepping away from the broadcast booth to undergo treatment for lung cancer, Remy released in a statement Wednesday evening.

“As I’ve done before and will continue to do, I will battle this with everything I have,” Remy wrote.

The 68-year-old former Red Sox infielder has been battling lung cancer since 2008. In June he spent five days at Mass General due to shortness of breath.
