Fan fight at Colombian soccer match stalls game, leaves some injured

A fight among soccer fans in Colombia on Tuesday spilled onto the pitch and delayed a game for almost an hour, Sports Illustrated reported Wednesday.

A match at Colombia's El Campin Stadium between local club Independiente Santa Fe and visiting Atletico Nacional was supposed to be celebratory since fans were allowed to sit in the stands for the first time since the pandemic locked public venues down.

Instead, Nacional fans reportedly invaded an area in the stands where Santa Fe fans were sitting and started a brawl following the end of the first half. The fighting evolved into a mass invasion of the field and a continued rumble, with some fans also fighting with police.

Police reported several people were injured in the incident.

Mayor Claudia Lopez, who attended the game, said it would be the last fans will be allowed to attend for a while because of the incident.
