Titans training camp: News, notes, video from Day 7 of practice

The Tennessee Titans were back in action at training camp for Day 7 on Wednesday, taking part in their second padded practice, which comes one day before the team will have an off day on Thursday.

The Titans once again saw some important players not participating, as wide receivers Julio Jones and Josh Reynolds, tight end Geoff Swaim, and outside linebacker Harold Landry were all absent.

Jones came down with a seemingly minor injury on Monday and has now missed two practices in a row. Reynolds and Swaim have not seen the practice field since last Thursday. Landry left early on Tuesday.

The good news is that outside linebacker Derick Roberson was back in action after leaving practice early on Saturday, and first-round pick, cornerback Caleb Farley, got in his third practice of training camp.

After practice was over, Titans head coach Mike Vrabel and left tackle Taylor Lewan addressed the media. We have the highlights from those pressers, on top of the news, notes and video from Wednesday’s session.

-Julio Jones, Josh Reynolds, Geoff Swaim, Harold Landry, Dane Cruikshank and Spencer Pulley were all absent. Derick Roberson returned after missing the last two days.

-Caleb Farley appeared to do a bit more than the past two practices, a great sign of progress.

-Brady Breeze was ejected from practice after a hit to the head on Dez Fitzpatrick (Ben Arthur, the Tennessean).

-Kicker update: Tucker McCann was 6-of-8, while Sam Ficken was 7-of-8. Ficken missed from 46, while McCann was no good from 40 twice, but he did make one from 53 (Ben Arthur and ESPN’s Turron Davenport).

-Davenport: “Teair Tart continues to be a problem. His quickness is showing which is allowing him to get into the backfield and blow up running plays.”

-Davenport: “Ryan Tannehill and A.J. Brown are able to connect across the middle whenever they want. That’s still clockwork like it’s been since 2019.”

-Davenport: “Cam Batson, Chester Rogers and Mason Kinsey rotated on punt returns.”

-Davenport: “Ola Adeniyi smoked Dillon Radunz multiple times during team period. One was a would be sack. The other times he made the QB rush his throw. At 6-1, Adeniyi was coming off the edge and the 6-6 Radunz couldn’t handle his get off.”

-Davenport: “David Long made a nice PBU from the backside on a route across the middle by Dez Fitzpatrick. Logan Woodside made the throw. Long had a good day filling vs. the run too.”

John Glennon, Broadway Sports: “The defensive line continues to stand out during camp. Teair Tart once again had a handful of good plays on Wednesday. But it’s not just the starters who are standing out. Trevon Coley, Anthony Rush, Woodrow Hamilton and Naquan Jones all were noticeable against the run, with Hamilton coming through with two of three nice stops in a row toward the end of practice…”

Jim Wyatt, Titans Online: “I noticed rookie linebacker Monty Rice more on Wednesday than any other day in training camp so far. Rice, a third-round pick from Georgia, showed up with several run stops, and he made a nice play in coverage as well. Later in practice, Rice even put some pressure on Kizer on a rush.”

-Wyatt: “The Titans have dealt with some poor center-to-QB exchanges in camp, and the issues haven’t been completely solved. A snap from center Daniel Munyer to quarterback Logan Woodside ended up on the ground in Wednesday’s session.”

-Wyatt: “Evans has looked good running the football in camp, and he’s gotten a lot of opportunities with starter Derrick Henry limited. Running back Brian Hill has also gotten chances, and he’s shown some burst as well.”
