Newlywed who refused Covid vaccine over fears of side effects dies after catching virus from his care home worker wife

A NEWLYWED who refused the Covid vaccine has died after catching the virus from his care home worker wife, it was reported.

A relative has said Aude Alaskar, 27, was concerned about the side effects of taking the vaccine but collapsed in the shower and couldn’t be revived.

The forklift truck driver from Sydney had only married his wife Yasmin a few weeks ago and the pair had been isolating after she caught the virus at work.

He died of the highly transmissible Delta variant, which has sent Australia enforce one of the world's strictest lockdowns.

Cousin Khalid Thijeel said Aude was not an anti-vaxxer but was concerned about the possible side effects and “was just waiting to see” for any dangers to emerge.

“He was young, and it's my understanding he wanted to see what long-term effects there were - he doesn't have children yet, but would it affect them?,” he told the Daily Mail.

He said his cousin was feeling “90 per cent fine” even as recently as Tuesday morning and didn’t develop any symptoms until about a week after his diagnosis.  

“He woke up yesterday, he was feeling good, he had breakfast, called his family and then he had a shower about 4pm and that was it,' Mr Thijeel said. 

“He only got married about 6 weeks ago… [he was] just starting his life.”

'JUST STARTING HIS LIFE'

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation's latest advice states that increased transmissibility of the Delta variant greatly outweighs any minor risks associated with the AstraZeneca jab. 

“In a large outbreak, the benefits of the COVID-19 vaccine AstraZeneca are greater than the risk of rare side effects for all age groups,” the advice states.

Aude is the youngest Covid fatality in New South Wales and was on day 13 of his home isolation.

Another cousin Bash Mnati paid tribute to Aude as a “perfect man” who was a fit football player with no apparent underlying health problems.

“He was so nice, he was so good, he never had any trouble with anyone," said Mr Mnati.

“He just got married about three months ago and his wedding party was in two months' time.”

His health condition was being checked daily by staff from the South-Western Sydney Local Health District but chief health officer Kerry Chant said he "suddenly deteriorated".

"He did complain of feeling a little fatigued but the deterioration happened suddenly is my understanding," Dr Chant said.

“We are aware that with Covid you can get sudden deaths and I think that is important to understand that your health status can deteriorate and you can have sudden death with Covid.”

Meanwhile it was reported that a 16-year-old has been admitted to hospital in Sydney.
