Has anyone died from Covid who has been fully vaccinated?
"A PANDEMIC of the unvaccinated" has now become synonymous with coronavirus cases rampaging across the country.
As cases of Covid-19 continue to soar thanks to the spread of the Delta variant, many already vaccinated people are wondering how their jabs would fare.
What are breakthrough cases?
Some people who have been vaccinated are finding out they have gotten sick from Covid-19 - and that they're able to transmit the virus.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky raised alarm bells at the new phenomenon.
"On rare occasions, some vaccinated people infected with the delta variant after vaccination may be contagious and spread the virus to others," she said. "This new science is worrisome."
What are the chances of getting hospitalized with the vaccine?
The majority of people who are vaccinated can go on living life normally (mandates and restrictions notwithstanding) prior to the pandemic.
However, there are a few breakthrough cases that could lead to hospitalizations.
Less than 0.004 percent of people who are fully vaccinated in the country will be hospitalized.
Less than 0.001 percent will die from Covid.
As of late July, there were 6,239 Covid-19 vaccinations among the fully vaccinated.
Close to 75 percent of those breakthrough cases occurred among individuals 65 and older.
Are unvaccinated people more at risk of getting ill?
The majority of people getting infected, let alone hospitalized, are those who are unvaccinated.
The more people that get vaccinated, the smaller the spread and the surge in cases would diminish, officials say.
More than 94 percent of reported Covid-19 cases in recent weeks are from those who are unvaccinated.
Luckily, close to 60 percent of the country over the age of 12 has been fully vaccinated.
