Virginia Beach will resume turning off water service to customers who haven’t been paying their bills at the end of the month.

Customers’ accounts turn delinquent when their city services bill — which includes the cost of water, sewer, trash collection and a stormwater fee — isn’t fully paid within 90 days of the original bill date.

After those 90 days, the city can shut off their water.

The city suspended water turn-offs for unpaid delinquent bills in March 2020 due to the pandemic. Cities across the state mostly opted to do the same.

Federal CARES Act funding is still available to those who need help paying their bills. The program expires Nov. 1.

Virginia Beach’s bill relief program closed in June, but other resources are available at www.vbgov.com/pu-paymentassistance.
