TUCSON, Ariz. (KGUN) — A pedestrian has died after being hit by a vehicle near Alvernon and Glenn on Aug. 3.

According to the Tucson Police Department, 45-year-old Emiliano Baldenegro passed away from his injuries on Sunday, Aug. 8.

Police say officers responded that night to the area after 8 p.m. for reports of a serious injury crash.

Upon arrival, officers found Baldenegro with life-threatening injuries. He was then transported to a local hospital.

TPD says the vehicle that hit the victim was found nearby unoccupied. The driver then returned to the scene shortly after the crash and was identified as 63-year-old Valerie Louise West.

"Through interviews conducted by officers and detectives, it was learned that the pedestrian was crossing N. Alvernon Way from east to west in a marked crosswalk with the use of a HAWK light. The pedestrian was established in the crosswalk when he was struck by the Nissan," said TPD in a news release.

West has since been booked into Pima County Jail for the felony charge of leaving the scene of a serious injury collision.
