Flashback: Biden predicted Cuomo would be criminally prosecuted over allegations

.

President Joe Biden called on controversial Democratic New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo to resign after an investigation confirmed the validity of sexual allegations 11 women brought against him.

However, the president would not say whether Cuomo should be criminally prosecuted.

“Let’s take one thing at a time here,” Biden told a group of reporters at the White House Tuesday when asked whether Cuomo should be impeached over the allegations.

The president’s silence comes just months after he predicted Cuomo would face criminal charges if the investigation confirmed claims of sexual harassment or misconduct.

‘HE SHOULD RESIGN’: BIDEN SIDES WITH CUOMO’S ACCUSERS

“If the investigation confirms the claims of the women, should [Cuomo] resign?” ABC News’s George Stephanopoulos asked Biden in March 2021.

“Yes,” the president answered at the time. “I think he probably ends up being prosecuted, too.”

Reporters at the White House Tuesday brought up the months-old comments and asked the president if he stood by them.

“I stand by that comment,” Biden answered. “I think he should resign.”

“The state Legislature may decide to impeach. I don’t know that for a fact. I have not read all that data,” he added.

Cuomo denied the allegations in his own press conference and wrote off the accusations of misconduct as reading too much into his touchy embraces, saying he “never touched anyone inappropriately or made inappropriate sexual advances.”

Later in the Biden presser, the president, also known for affectionate displays when greeting supporters, seemed to defend Cuomo and said some of the embraces, which included kissing on the cheek and terms of endearment, were “totally innocent.”

“I am sure that some of the embraces were totally innocent. But, apparently, the attorney general said there were things that weren’t,” he added.

A reporter also asked the president if he condoned Cuomo’s use of a picture with Biden as a defense for his actions, but the president brushed the question off.
