Clearwater’s Ruth Eckerd Hall announces 2021-22 Broadway season

‘Rent,’ ‘Jersey Boys’ and ‘Beautiful - The Carole King Musical’ are included in the lineup.

More than a year after announcing a 2021 Broadway season that couldn’t happen because of the pandemic, Ruth Eckerd Hall has announced the 2021-22 season that will take place in the Clearwater venue and the Bilheimer Capitol Theatre.

Many of the shows in the upcoming season were slated for last year, including Beautiful - The Carole King Musical, Jersey Boys, South Pacific, The Simon and Garfunkel Story, Rain: A Tribute to the Beatles and Friends! The Musical Parody. Tickets purchased for the previous dates will be honored for the new ones.

New this season is the 25th anniversary farewell tour of Rent, Stomp, An American in Paris, Fiddler on the Roof, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story and A Bronx Tale starring Chazz Palminteri.

The season kicks off on Nov. 30 with Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Up next is Sarah Brightman: A Christmas Symphony on Dec. 15. Tickets for both productions are on sale now.

Here’s the full lineup:

Ruth Eckerd Hall

A Christmas Carol (Nov. 30): Dickens classic set to a soundtrack of 26 Christmas carols.

Sarah Brightman: A Christmas Symphony (Dec. 15): Accompanied by an orchestra and a choir, the three-octave soprano who pioneered the classical crossover movement will perform holiday favorites and her greatest hits.

Jersey Boys (Jan. 12-13; tickets on sale now): The behind-the-music story of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons features hits including Sherry, Oh What A Night, Can’t Take My Eyes Off You and Working My Way Back to You.

Stomp (Jan. 18-19; tickets go on sale Aug. 13): The eight-member troupe rhythmically uses everything but conventional percussion instruments, including matchboxes, wooden poles, brooms, garbage cans, Zippo lighters and hubcaps.

Beautiful - The Carole King Musical (Jan. 31-Feb. 1; tickets on sale now): The musical tells the story of the singer-songwriter’s rise to fame and includes favorite songs I Feel the Earth Move, (You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman and You’ve Got A Friend.

An American in Paris (Feb. 4; tickets go on sale Aug. 13): George and Ira Gershwin’s musical follows World War II veteran Jerry Mulligan, who goes to newly liberated Paris to try to make his mark as a painter.

RAIN – A Tribute to the Beatles (March 2; tickets on sale now): The performance chronicles the Fab Four and focuses on the best of Abbey Road, their iconic 1969 album.

Rent: Final Season of Love (March 22-23; tickets go on sale Aug. 13): The 25th anniversary farewell tour of the iconic musical following a group of artists and friends struggling to achieve their dreams.

South Pacific (April 16; tickets on sale now): Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical tells the Pulitzer Prize-winning story set on a tropical island during World War II and centered around two unlikely love affairs.

Fiddler on the Roof (April 18; tickets go on sale Aug. 13): The classic musical that tells the heartwarming story of fathers and daughters, husbands and wives, is rich with Broadway hits, including To Life (L’Chaim!), If I Were A Rich Man, Sunrise Sunset, Matchmaker, Matchmaker, and Tradition.

Bilheimer Capitol Theatre

Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story (Dec. 3; tickets go on sale Aug. 13): The “world’s most successful rock ‘n’ roll musical” includes the hits That’ll Be The Day, Not Fade Away and Oh Boy.

Friends: The Musical Parody (Dec. 5; tickets on sale now): The show pokes fun at the popular 1990s sitcom that follows a group of twentysomethings as they navigate life in New York City.

The Simon & Garfunkel Story (Feb. 8; tickets on sale now): The concert-style show chronicles the journey of the folk-rock duo Paul Simon & Art Garfunkel and includes favorites Mrs. Robinson and Bridge Over Troubled Water, as well as video projection, photos and original film footage.

A Bronx Tale (March 20; tickets on sale now): Chazz Palminteri will perform his original one-man show that later became a movie directed by Robert DeNiro.
