New Amsterdam may be getting ready to clean house, with a little help from Michelle Forbes.
The Killing and True Blood vet is joining the NBC medical drama’s upcoming fourth season in the recurring role of Dr. Veronica Fuentes, a calm, poised and fearless fixer who is brought in to “reconstruct” the failing hospital. TVLine has learned that Dr. Fuentes’ first order of business on her way to reversing New Amsterdam’s declining numbers will be to “wipe clean the inept board.”
Forbes most recently recurred on ABC’s Big Sky. A source close to the David E. Kelley drama confirms that Forbes’ role as Margaret Kleinsasser came to an end in the Season 1 finale.
New Amsterdam kicks off Season 4 on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 10 pm.
Makes sense they would do this. Honestly, the show has tried to skate by this entire time by taking an approach of Max vs. the system in his valiant crusade to fix the medical industry and after a while, it just feels flat. The show has lacked a certain.. friction, or tension(?) I suppose for a little while. Of course, it all depends on the story they want to tell but I think it has a chance to revitalize a show that I felt was spinning its wheels. Much like The Blacklist, there’s only so many ways you can dress up the same story and present it as being something different.
I agree. Max and his “fix of the week” was getting absolutely ridiculous. They need to get the show back on track.
Ha, my husband commented that this show is basically following the “House” playbook. Every week there is a problem, Max tries at least 3 wrong solutions to the problem before finally hitting on the correct solution. I got board with this formula years ago on “House” and it doesn’t work any better here.
I can honestly say that I agree with this comment. It totally makes sense. The storyline have been pretty much the same with Max taking on the board of health. But I do like how they chose to share with us some personal issues in each characters lives that we never knew before.
We’ll see exactly what (and who) she does when the show returns. Just don’t mess with Max with Helen, though. Their slow build to a relationship since the series started has me routing for my favorite couple!
Agreed! We’ve waited a long time for Sharpwin and I hope no one comes between them
I think this is what the show needs and was seriously lacking in series 3. It hasn’t really had real friction for a while. It’s just Max against the system.
Does that mean Debra Monk is out? I love her and the interplay between her and Max.
Me too!!
Hope they are not getting rid of Karen (Debra Monk) as there’s good byplay between Max and her. The showrunners had already stated that Season 4 would get back to the way Seasons 1 and 2 were (medical cases) so I’m not sure if that’s what this new person is going to do coming in. Max has a good heart and does want to make changes, but I think he was spreading himself too thin and simply, not everyone was truly on board with what he was trying to do. So we’ll just have to see how Season 4 plays out; it could be a disaster or it could be good. And I agree with another poster–don’t mess with Max and Helen!
Omg, I forgot she was Sonni/Solita. When I watched the killing I knew I knew her from somewhere but I was never able to figure out where.. thank you
Also forgot to add, they need to be careful bringing in a new face as there’s a pretty great ensemble cast as is. I hope this doesn’t screw up the dynamic.
Yes. I too agree with this. We all Sharpe & Max fans would like to keep this relationship intact from outsiders. We already have enough daytime soaps
y & r and dool for that.
Ensign Ro!!
She will always be Sonni/Solita from Guiding Light for me. :)
Me too!
YES. I would have put that info in the article too!
After True Blood, I always am skeptical when Michelle Forbes enters a show. She played the necromancer so well that I never can fully get behind the character and always think the character is going to be evil. I am always dubious about any role she plays, because that character has stuck with me, this many years later.
The show is just ok but lacks the magic of previous medical shiws like St elsewhere which had a snappy cast. Also find the gay thing reeks of desperation for ratings.
“gay thing”??????
The “gay thing”? ?? What reality do you live in? lol
What great casting! Michelle Forbes is excellent in everything she does (although Sonni/Solita from Guiding Light will always hold a special place in my heart :)). I’m so excited for this. I can’t wait for the first Michelle Forbes/Debra Monk scene. Yeah!
Some of the cast are kind of bland especially the girl in the closet. Pretty but bland.
I like the ensemble as is and how the writers have not only focused on the story of the week, but character and relationship development as well. Season 3 can’t be compared to the first two seasons because it was a shorter season and current events were incorporated to the story. Based on where the hospital is located those things could not be ignored. I hope writers don’t mess with Max and Helen, keep developing them.
Yeah, the show could use a little shakeup, like someone who opposes Max’s methods. I like watching The Resident because they usually bring in characters to stir things up. This new doctor and the questionable work relationships happening should make for an interesting season 4.
Why are they bringing in Michelle Forbes on one of the most popular shows on television? She’s only being brought in to break up Max & Helen, looks like I’m going to find something else to look at
they really air brushed this pic of her gezz
