Tuesday, Aug. 4 | The Missouri State Highway Patrol announced Tuesday that 29-year-old Dakota Engel has died from injuries sustained in the crash.

Monday, Aug. 3 | Four people are dead and another is in serious condition after a crash Monday morning on Missouri 7 near State Route F in Garden City.

The Missouri Highway Patrol closed parts of MO-7 to clear and investigate the crash.

The patrol's crash report states a 2000 Peterbilt was southbound on State Route F late Monday morning when it left the road, traveled down an embankment and crossed the northbound entrance ramp to MO-7.

The tractor trailer crashed into the passenger side of a 2015 Nissan SUV that was northbound on the highway.

Everett E. Ashley, 59, of Lowry City, Missouri, the driver of the tractor trailer died at the scene, according to the patrol's report.

It's unclear if Ashley's death was caused by a medical condition or the crash.

Stephen W. Bennett, 61, of Junction City, Kansas, was the driver of the SUV.

Bennett died at a hospital about 90 minutes after the crash.

The others who died, Gerald Dittman, 68, of Hope, Kansas, and Jean Pariseau, 71, of Herinton, Kansas, were passengers in the SUV, according to the patrol report.

Dakota Engel, 29, a passenger in the SUV, suffered serious injuries and was flown by Life Flight Helicopter to a Kansas City, Missouri, hospital.

Southbound lanes of MO-7 were closed. Drivers were asked to detour using the off-ramp to Route F, cross the road and re-enter the highway.

The highway completely reopened shortly after 4 p.m.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
