25-year-old Atlanta man drowns at south Georgia lake

ATLANTA — The body of an Atlanta man was recovered from a lake in south Georgia Monday morning.

Abraham Levy, 25, went under at Lake Blackshear on Friday around 6:30 p.m.

Lake Blackshear is about 40 miles north of Albany.

Crews searched through the weekend and were able to recover Levy’s body with the help of a dive team.

During the search, the community came together to offer water, boats, jet skis and drones to help in the recovery effort, according to Crisp County Sheriff Billy Hancock.

“To the family and friends of Abraham Levy, I am deeply sorry for your loss,” Hancock wrote on Facebook. “To the first responders involved in search and recovery efforts, I cannot thank you enough. Thank you for going above and beyond the call of duty to help find this young man.”

The Sheriff’s Office said they do not suspect foul play in Levy’s death.
