Indianapolis Colts sign veteran quarterback Brett Hundley in wake of Carson Wentz injury

WESTFIELD, Ind. — The Indianapolis Colts have made a move to add a veteran quarterback in the wake of Carson Wentz’s injury, adding former Green Bay Packers, Seattle Seahawks and Arizona Cardinals passer Brett Hundley on Saturday.

Wentz suffered a foot injury on Thursday that is still being evaluated, and the Colts do not have a timetable for the starting quarterback’s return. With Wentz out of the picture, none of the three quarterbacks on the Indianapolis roster — Jacob Eason, Sam Ehlinger and Jalen Morton — has taken a snap in the NFL.

Indianapolis has not released any further information on Wentz. The quarterback planned to send images of his foot injury to Dr. Robert Anderson, a Green Bay-based specialist who is the NFL’s foremost expert on the foot.

Hundley, 28, has bounced around the NFL after being a fifth-round pick by the Packers out of UCLA in 2015.

Initially drafted to be Aaron Rodgers’ backup, Hundley was given a chance to start nine games in 2017 for the Packers when Rodgers was injured. Hundley completed 60.8% of his passes for 1,836 yards, nine touchdowns and 12 interceptions, posting a 70.6 quarterback rating and a 3-6 record.

Hundley was traded to the Seahawks for a sixth-round pick the next offseason, then spent two years in Arizona, but he hadn’t been signed up to this point this summer.

The former Packers backup has thrown only 10 passes since that nine-game stretch as a starter in 2017.
