Carrie's happy announcement today comes just two months after the couple were secretly married in Westminster Cathedral on May 29, 2021.

She revealed the exciting news on Instagram, snapping a picture of a blue baby's pram along with a heartfelt caption.

The PM's wife said that the pair are "hoping for our rainbow baby this Christmas."

Carrie also bravely revealed that she suffered a miscarriage earlier this year, which left her "heartbroken."

But her pregnancy with her second child has now made her feel "incredibly blessed."

She wrote: "Hoping for our rainbow baby this Christmas.

"At the beginning of the year, I had a miscarriage which left me heartbroken.

"I feel incredibly blessed to be pregnant again but I've also felt like a bag of nerves."

The pair welcomed their firstborn, little Wilfred Lawrie Nicholas Johnson, into the world on April 29 2020 - and he was named after doctors who saved the PM's life.

The proud parents showed off their son on May 2 - with his middle name Nicholas in tribute to the medics who treated Boris as he fought coronavirus.

Carrie gave birth to Wilfred just 16 days after Boris fought for his life in intensive care with coronavirus in the midst of the first lockdown last year.

Wilfred was pictured again in July while getting a loving cuddle from his mum while taking part in a Zoom call with staff at University College London Hospitals.

She told midwives how “incredibly grateful” she was for the “most amazing care” she got.

In August the four-month-old was brought on his first holiday to the Scottish Highlands.

Snaps from the trip show the PM strolling with Wilfred strapped to his chest.

In June, Wilfred stole the show at a beach BBQ for G7 world leaders.

The youngster showed off his head of bright blonde curls as Carrie introduced him to the group and their partners at the event in Carbis Bay, Cornwall.

The 33-year-old beamed as the toddler walked towards her, much to the delight of America's First Lady Jill Biden.

She was pictured cooing over Wilfred, who was dressed for the occasion in blue shorts and a white shirt.

The PM's tousle-haired son - who shares his father's thick locks - appeared to be the main attraction at the festivities.

And on the same day as Carrie and Boris' secret wedding, the adorable tot, who has inherited his dad’s distinct blond mop, was snapped on Instagram by his mother enjoying a day out.

In May this year the couple wed looking besotted in the garden of No10 - with a larger celebration with friends and family to take place next summer.

Adorned in a flower crown, the bride looked stunning as she stepped out wearing a flowing white dress.

Instead of a veil, Carrie's floral headpiece matched the bud placed in the Prime Minister's buttonhole.

And Boris looked smart in a dapper suit and accompanying blue tie - while he looked adoringly into his wife's eyes.

Posting on her personal Instagram, Carrie wrote: "Thank you for the kind messages. Very, very happy" along with a picture of her and Boris looking besotted on the big day.

And a No10 spokesman said: “The Prime Minister and Ms Symonds were married yesterday afternoon in a small ceremony at Westminster Cathedral.

"The couple will celebrate their wedding with family and friends next summer.”

Their year-old son Wilfred was there to see the happy occasion, along with two official witnesses.

A source close to Carrie said: “They are both absolutely thrilled.

"The whole thing has been conducted amid great secrecy and planned meticulously.

'Pair have defeated odds to get here'

By Dr Carol Cooper, Sun Doctor

IT’S wonderful to hear there is an impending new arrival for Boris Johnson and wife Carrie.

Their second child will be a blessing after the heartache of miscarriage about which Carrie has courageously written on her Instagram. She said she hopes to help others by sharing her loss.

While miscarriage is common, it’s still something of a taboo and the good news is that having one doesn’t mean there will be another.
Boris and Carrie have beaten the odds to reach this stage again.

Stress can affect male and female fertility and there has been lots of that.

Age may also be a factor here. That said, the PM is full of surprises.

He’s in his sixth decade but appears to pack more into a few months than many people do in years.

I wish them every happiness and hope they find some special time to spend with Wilfred to help him adjust to becoming a big brother.

“It was just their secret and that made the day so special.”

The event was six months in the planning - and fewer than 30 guests had been invited, all of whom were told at the last minute.

They were thought to include Boris’s dad Stanley and sister Julia, who were seen at No10 on the day of the wedding.

Posts hid her private pain

IN her moving message, Carrie Johnson wrote how “on platforms like Instagram, it can look like everything is only ever going well”.

The Prime Minister’s wife revealed that she had suffered a miscarriage at the beginning of the year.

But, looking back, her own account shows it was business as usual as she and her husband battled their secret loss.

On December 22 last year, Carrie was pictured calling Mary Beggs-Reid, who has campaigned to combat loneliness among the elderly, from inside Downing Street.

On January 24, she posted an image of her and son Wilfred, then nine months, staring at the snow in the Downing Street garden.

And on February 3, Carrie and the PM were pictured taking part in a doorstep clap in memory of fundraising hero Captain Tom Moore outside Downing Street.

By David Wooding, Assistant Editor

COURAGEOUS Carrie Johnson has brought hope for thousands of women from her adversity.

She could have told the nation only the good news about her pregnancy.

But she bravely chose to open her heart about the pain and sorrow of suffering a miscarriage earlier this year.

It cannot have been easy as her anguish will be raw and she’ll still be hurting deeply. Yet, by speaking out she has brought comfort and solace to 250,000 women who lose an unborn child every year in the UK.

Carrie has shown again what an asset she is to her husband and to the office of Prime Minister.

She was already expecting again when she walked down the aisle with the PM in May. And a month later she was star of the show at the G7 summit in Cornwall

Carrie has now secured her place as the PM’s secret weapon — and as an inspiration to women.
