1-year-old, 16-year-old killed in St. Petersburg crash

A 1-year-old and 16-year-old are dead, and others, including children, were injured Friday after a a crash on Tyrone Boulevard, according to the St. Petersburg Police Department.

Williah Waller, 1, and Mar’Rion Heatley, 16, were identified Friday evening by St. Petersburg police as the victims in the crash.

A gray 2017 Nissan Rogue traveling on Tyrone Boulevard North around 12:52 p.m attempted to overtake another vehicle, police said, lost control and struck a tree. Two adults, two children and two toddlers were inside the car at the time of the crash. Two toddlers and one child were transported to a hospital. Maliyah Waters, 18, was treated at the scene, police said. One of the toddlers is in critical condition.

The crash occurred near St. Petersburg Catholic High School.

Waters was later arrested and faces charges of aggravated manslaughter of a child, child abuse and aggravated battery - great bodily harm. Authorities accused Waters of allowing children in her care to ride in a car without proper restraints but confirmed she was not the driver of the car.

St. Petersburg police are still investigating the crash. Detectives are asking anyone with information to call the non-emergency line at 727-893-7780.
