TikTok is left horrified by video of mom yelling 'no!' and stopping her son from PROPOSING as he was pulling a ring from his pocket - but viewers insist the girlfriend 'dodged a bullet' 

• A man named Dan shared video of his aborted proposal on TikTok
• He and his then-girlfriend stood in front of a beautiful view before she climbed up on a wall, and he prepared to pop the question
• While Dan's father recorded a video of the moment, his mother could be heard off camera yelling: 'Danny, no!'
• Critical commenters said Dan's girlfriend dodged a bullet and accused him of having no spine to let his mother make decisions for him 
• But other commenters have pointed out that the mother also can be heard saying 'get down' and was likely just worried about Dan's wife's safety 
• He proposed moments later and they took engagement photos in the spot 

A TikTok user has horrified viewers with a video of the moment his mother yelled 'no!' and stopped him from proposing to his girlfriend.

Dan, who goes by @catdaddan on the app, is now happily married to the girlfriend in question, but his original romantic proposal plans were thwarted by his meddlesome mother.

In a video that's been viewed 9.4 million times, Dan can be seen reaching for the ring box in his pocket while his girlfriend stands above him — but he soon abandoned the idea of popping the question when his mother loudly told him not to from just feet away.

In the video, Dan and his then-girlfriend are standing in front a beautiful scenic view at Dirt Farm Brewing in Bluemont, Virginia.   

A nervous Dan can be seen fidgeting around his pocket, where his engagement ring is waiting.

While Dan's father records, the girlfriend stands up on a stone wall, holding out her hands to keep her balance.

This is the moment that Dan clearly planned to pop the question, and he is looking up at his girlfriend about to ask her when his mother can be heard off camera.

'Danny, no!' she yells. 

'My dad didn't know what to do so he just kept recording,' Dan captioned the clip.

While at first watch, it appears as is if mother might disapprove of him proposing, the older woman also seems to yell 'get down' to his girlfriend — and may just have been concerned about her safety on the edge.

But commenters were still horrified, with several saying that Dan's girlfriend 'got lucky' and 'dodged a controlling MIL.'

'Who wants to marry someone that lets mom pick out their wife?' asked one.

'Not sure what's [worse], a controlling mom or a man baby who doesn't make his own decisions,' wrote another.

Dan played along with several of the comments, including one asking, 'So you just let your momma decide who you're gonna be with?'

'My mama said she knows what's best for me. If anyone tells me different, they're the devil,' he joked.

In a follow-up video, Dan assured viewers that he did, in fact, propose just a few moments later. 

'So I didn't propose at that moment for obvious reasons,' he said, sharing an engagement photo they took at the spot once she'd said yes. 

Though commenters piled criticism on Dan's mom, she doesn't appear to be letting it bother her.

In yet another video, Dan showed the viral clip to his mom, who laughed good-humoredly.  

'Kind of rude making fun of me!' she told him.
