Ben White's Arsenal shirt number confirmed following £50million transfer
Ben White has been handed the legendary No.4 shirt number at Arsenal after signing from Brighton & Hove Albion.
The 23-year-old, who was part of England's Euro 2020 squad, has penned a long-term contract at the Emirates.
White will cost the Gunners £50million after an impressive seasons with the Seagulls.
He becomes Mikel Arteta's third signing of the summer after Albert Sambi Lokonga and Nuno Tavares joined from Anderlecht and Benfica respectively.
The versatile and stylish defender came to prominence in 2019-20 season on loan at Leeds United, where he was an ever-present in Marcelo Bielsa's Championship-winning side.
White was announced on Friday and will wear the No.4 shirt.
The number was previously worn by newly-apppointed Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, who dominated in midfield for Arsenal in the early 2000s.
Worn by Per Mertesacker and Cesc Fabregas since, White will take the jersey from William Salaba, who has joined Marseille alongside Matteo Guendouzi on a season-long loan.

Upon signing, Gunners technical director Edu told their club's website : "Ben has been a key target this summer. He has so many qualities which make us so excited he’s joining us.
"Ben’s a young English player with a great future. He’s very strong defensively, good on the ball with a great passing range."
He added: "We’re delighted Ben’s signed and we look forward to him growing with us."
Mikel Arteta also stated: "Ben was a top target for us and it’s great that we’ve completed his signing.
"Ben has been educated with two very good clubs, Brighton and Leeds, in recent seasons," the Spaniard explained.
"He has benefitted well from two very good coaching set-ups and has shown with both Brighton and on loan with Leeds what a strong talent he is."
Arteta is hoping to see White don the No. 4 for many years to come, too.
"Ben is an intelligent defender who is very comfortable with the ball at his feet and his style fits perfectly with us," he continued.
"And of course, he is still young, so his age and profile fits with what we are building here.
"We are all looking forward to Ben being central to our future long-term plans."
Arteta and co will begin their Premier League campaign at Brentford on Friday, August 13.
