This Morning fans in tears as nine-year-old with terminal cancer has wish granted on show
This Morning viewers were left in floods of tears as a nine-year-old girl with terminal cancer had one of her wishes granted on the show today.
Sophie Fairall was diagnosed with rhabdomyosarcoma - a rare type of cancer that forms in children's soft tissue - in September 2020.
She appeared on the ITV daytime programme alongside her mum and dad on the sofa, who confirmed that her cancer can't be cured and has only up to six months to live.
Despite the diagnosis, Sophie remains positive and has written a list of things she wants to experience.
"She had a 12-inch tumour that was removed back in September," her dad explained. "Unfortunately, she relapsed in June back after nine months of chemotherapy and radiotherapy. So they've told us there's no cure for it now but Sophie, being Sophie, wants to be positive."
Sophie's mum said that they had decided to stop her treatment, which "hadn't been an easy decision".
"We know what the consequences are of stopping treatment," she said. "I think for us, quality of life was definitely more important at the time. Selfishly, for us, it would be the time. But we thought, actually, with the effects of the chemo and this new chemo that we were on wasn't actually working, we felt that actually the [right] decision was to stop the treatment."
One of Sophie's wishes on her list had been to visit the This Morning studio and when asked whether it was what she imagined, she said: "It's smaller than i thought... I thought it was real windows!"
Holly Willoughby, who is Sophie's favourite presenter, also surprised her via video link as she gave her a "big virtual cuddle".
The host went on to gift her with the tiara she wore during the Christmas pantomime last December and the I'm A Celebrity water bottle she had when she presented the show in 2018.
Sophie is also campaigning as part of her wish list as she wants better food in hospital and play assistants at the weekend.
And viewers were in tears as they declared that "life isn't fair" and praised the "brave" young girl.
One tweeted: "Sophie is utterly delightful. May all her wishes be granted #ThisMorning."
