CHANGED RAMS

How Wayne Rooney’s Derby could line up this season with ex-Prem stars Ravel Morrison, Jack Wilshere and Phil Jagielka

WAYNE ROONEY'S Derby County could look like a much-changed side in the 2021-22 season as they bid for promotion to the Premier League.

The Rams have already welcomed former England internationals Phil Jagielka and Jack Wilshere to train with them during pre-season.

Jagielka even featured in Derby's 2-1 defeat to Manchester United as he looks to secure a contract with the club.

Another former Premier League player also played in that game in ex-Man Utd and West Ham man Ravel Morrison.

Morrison, 28, is another high-profile player attempting to earn a deal with the Rams ahead of the new campaign.

And they have also been linked with a move for 18-year-old Manchester City striker Liam Delap.

Derby avoided relegation by the skin of their teeth last season as they finished one point above the drop.

Manager Rooney will now be expected to improve the side dramatically as they hope to be fighting at the top end of the table.

But it was off-field matters that England's all-time top scorer was forced to address after their recent 1-0 friendly win over Real Betis.

That was because married man Rooney was snapped while asleep in a hotel room surrounded by girls.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he said: "I made a mistake. I went to a private party with two of my friends.

"From me, I would like to apologise to my family and the club for the images which were going round.

"I want to move forward on this. I'm grateful to Derby County for giving me this opportunity to get this club back to where it belongs

"I will do everything in my power to do that."

Asked if he felt the victim, he added: "Yes, but I don't really want to go into that.

"Listen, it's dealt with and I'm looking forward to moving forward and preparing for another game on Sunday."
