2 Miami Valley residents arrested, facing charges in connection to Capitol riots

The FBI has arrested a Piqua woman and Englewood man for their alleged involvement in crimes committed at the U.S. Capitol on Jan. 6.

Therese Borgerding, of Piqua, and Walter Messer, of Englewood, were arrested Wednesday and charged with:

  • Knowingly Entering or Remaining in any Restricted Building or Grounds without Lawful Authority
  • Violent Entry and Disorderly Conduct on Capitol Grounds
  • Parade, Demonstrate or Picket in any of the Capitol Buildings

he criminal complaint showed a Facebook comment of Borgerding’s that read, “YES I was inside the Capitol Building for a long time. You dont know the Truth what really happened.”

The criminal complaint showed photos of Messer inside the Capitol that Messer posted posted on his personal Facebook page. Authorities also located a YouTube channel under the name Walter Messer. A video on the channel included exterior and interior videos from the Capitol on Jan. 6.

Additionally, a photo posted to Messer Facebook page depicts an individual that authorities believe to be Borgerding.

Authorities cited legally obtained GPS data from Google accounts as evidence as well.

The FBI reportedly received an anonymous tip about Messer and Borgerding’s involvement three days after the Capitol riots, Jan. 9.
