Struggling for staff, Mankato Halloween business will put out-of-town workers up in hotels

A Mankato Halloween business is offering to pay the hotel costs of full-time, seasonal employees who are willing to temporarily relocate for work. and, based in the southern Minnesota city, are looking to hire 1,500 seasonal workers, the company told Bring Me The News. As part of their recruiting effort, their bringing back a program called "Halloween Heroes" targeting workers that live more than 30 miles away.

The goal, the business said, is to "combat the slow application rate" they're seeing in the state by expanding the hiring pool geographically.

How does it work? will pay for workers' hotel stays if they:

  • Are 18 and up
  • Live more than 30 miles from the headquarters
  • Are a resident of Minnesota, Iowa or Wisconsin
  • Work at least 40 hours a week will continue to cover hotel accommodations "as long as you continue to work the minimum 40 hours," its website says. You also have to get to and from work on your own.

The business is offering up to $16 per hour (with the possibility of overtime) for daytime shift workers during October, and up to $24 per hour that month for those on the night shift. and bill themselves as the largest online-only costume retailer in the world. They're looking to hire about 2,000 seasonal temp workers for the upcoming season, they said.
