Police recover catalytic converters, handgun and cash after West Seattle theft

SEATTLE — On July 22, around 3:30 p.m, a man watching his home security camera in West Seattle saw another man climb into his neighbor’s car and when he heard the sound of grinding and sawing metal, he called 911.

Officers responding to the call in the 10000 block of 41st Avenue Southwest were told the man left in a silver Acura and when officers spotted the car nearby, they pulled the driver over near Southwest 100th Street and 33rd Avenue Southwest.

After noticing a saw in the car and when the driver brought up the topic of stolen catalytic converters before the police had told him why they pulled him over, officers confirmed the man had stolen the earlier catalytic converter.

He was booked into jail for theft and narcotics.

The man was arrested and found to be carrying 47 grams of methamphetamine, 355 Percocet pills and $1,300 in cash.

After a warrant was served on the man’s car, officers recovered a box of nine catalytic converters, a backpack with $17,000, 141 grams of heroin, 13 oxycodone pills, and a stolen, loaded handgun.

The man is unable to legally own a firearm due to his prior felony convictions.
