Slipknot’s Joey Jordison latest – Drummer’s 911 call revealed after death and transverse myelitis diagnosis

A CHILLING 911 call was revealed after former Slipknot drummer Joey Jordison's death and his tragic diagnosis with transverse myelitis.

According to 911 audio obtained by TMZ, the Slipknot drummer - who was found dead at age 46 - was found by his ex-girlfriend.

During the emotional call, the woman requesting help said she was checking up on Jordison and became concerned once she opened the door of his home.

Jordison's death comes years after he announced he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a form of multiple sclerosis that lost power in his legs.

It also comes as Metallica released a new collab with Slipknot bandmate Corey Taylor, just hours before the band expressed condolences for Jordison's passing.

WHEN DID JORDISON FIRST START PLAYING MUSIC?

Jordison, born Nathan Jonas “Joey” Jordison, was born on April 26, 1975 in Des Moines, Iowa.

He began playing drums at 8 years old, even forming his first band when he was still in elementary school.

When he was 20, he joined a local metal band called the Pale Ones, which then became the band he helped found called Slipknot.

“Our hearts go out to Joey’s family and loved ones at this time of tremendous loss. Joey Jordinson’s art, talent, and spirit could not be contained or be held back,” the band said in a video tribute.

WHICH SLIPKNOT ALBUMS DID JORDISON PLAY ON?

Before he and the band parted ways in 2013, Jordisonn played on the band’s first four albums.

They were 1999’s Slipknot, 2001’s Iowa, 2004’s Vol. 3: (The Subliminal Verses), and 2008’s All Hope Is Gone.

In 2013, Jordison and the group parted ways for what the band said were “personal reasons” but Jordison said he was fired.

Also that same year, Jordison’s side band, Murderdolls, officially disbanded.

JORDISON OPENED UP ABOUT DIAGNOSIS IN 2016

At a 2016 awards ceremony, Jordison talked about his diagnosis.

“I got really really sick with a horrible disease called transverse myelitis. I lost my legs,” Jordison said while accepting an award.

“I couldn’t play anymore. It was a form of multiple sclerosis, which I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy.

“I got myself back up, and I got myself in the gym, and I got myself back in f**king therapy, to f**king beat this shit. And, if I could do it, you could do it.

“It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done in my life, more than f–king anything. To people with multiple sclerosis, transverse myelitis, anything like that, I am living proof that you can f**king beat that sh*t.”

WHEN DID JORDISON LEAVE SLIPKNOT?

WAS JORDISON FIRED?

Jordison was the founding drummer and co-writer for the heavy metal band Slipknot.

Formed in 1995, Jordison stayed in the band until December 12, 2013, when it was announced he left the band due to personal reasons but in a 2016 interview, he revealed he was fired.

“All I got was a stupid f***ing email saying I was out of the band that I busted my a** my whole life to f***ing create,” Jordison told Metal Hammer.

CHAIN OF DEATHS AND OVERDOSES LINKED TO SLIPKNOT

Jordison’s death comes after Paul Gray, the band’s bassist, left millions of fans in mourning after he was found dead in a hotel room in 2010.

Backing vocalist Shawn Crahan, known as “Clown”, lost his 22-year-old daughter Gabrielle Crahan after a “drug overdose” in 2019.

And the same year, fan Richard Valadez, 62, died at a Slipknot gig in Illinois shortly after he was hurt in a massive most pit.

Crahan, 51, almost lost his own life after diving headfirst into a bin filled with water during a festival and struggled to breathe for 35 seconds.

And Slipknot guitarist Mick Thompson, 47, was rushed to hospital with stab wounds after a wild knife fight with his brother in 2015.

WHAT DID JORDISON DIE OF?

Jordison’s family told Billboard in a statement that he passed away peacefully but did not give a specific cause of death.

In 2016, Jordison revealed that he had been diagnosed with transverse myelitis.

As a result, Jordison lost the ability to move his legs, which he cites as one of the reasons he was fired from the band in 2013.

It is unknown if his death is a result of his condition.

WHEN DID JORDISON REVEAL HIS MS DIAGNOSIS?

After he was let go from the band he helped create, Jordison came forward with MS diagnosis.

“Towards the end of my career in Slipknot, I got really, really sick with a horrible disease called transverse myelitis,” Jordison said.

“I lost my legs. I couldn’t play anymore. It was a form of multiple sclerosis, which I don’t wish on my worst enemy.” 

Jordison claimed his bandmates thought of medication for his illness as a drug abuse problem.

“They got confused about my health issues and obviously even I didn’t know what it was at first. They thought I was f**ked up on drugs, which I wasn’t at all.”

'OUR HEARTS ARE BROKEN'

Roadrunner Records paid tribute to Joey Jordison, who worked with the record label.

"No one embodied the spirit, community, and culture of Roadrunner Records or heavy metal and hard rock, at large, quite like Joey did," the label's tweet read.

 

 

WHAT AWARDS DID JORDISON RECEIVE?

Slipknot ended up receiving 10 Grammy nominations while Jordison played for the band, and one for best album.

Jordison himself won a number of awards for his drumming skills, most importantly a Golden God trophy at the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards.

He also won a Drummies Award for Best Metal Drummer, and the title of No. 1 heavy metal drummer.

GUITARIST JIM ROOT POSTS TRIBUTE

Slipknot guitarist Jim Root also paid tribute to Jordison with a black box posted to his Instagram.

Jim Root, whose full name is James Donald Root, is one of two guitarists for Slipknot.

Root, who is also known as #4, previously was the lead guitarist for a band called Stone Sour.

 

 

WHY DO SLIPKNOT FANS CALL THEMSELVES MAGGOTS?

After Slipknot came to have its own following in Iowa, fans of the band began calling themselves “maggots.”

This comes from the band releasing the demo album called Mate. Feed. Kill. Repeat. on Halloween 1996.

Slipknot signed onto Roadrunner Records that year, breaking into the mainstream and creating their first album named after the band.

That album went on to become the label’s first certified platinum album.

JOEY WAS A “PROLIFIC DRUMMER” WITH A “GIANT HEART”

A statement released by Jordison‘s family calls the musician prolific in his time.

“We are heartbroken to share the news that Joey Jordison, prolific drummer, musician and artist passed away peacefully in his sleep on July 26, 2021. He was 46,” the statement read.

“Joey’s death has left us with empty hearts and feelings of indescribable sorrow. To those that knew Joey, understood his quick wit, his gentle personality, giant heart and his love for all things family and music.”

“The family of Joey have asked that friends, fans and media understandably respect our need for privacy and peace at this incredibly difficult time. The family will hold a private funeral service and asks the media and public to respect their wishes.”

FAN RECALLS MEETING JORDISON IN ESSAY

A fan of Slipknot wrote about the impact meeting Joey Jordison had on him in a piece published to Kerrang!

He wrote: “Judging by the outpouring of love across the internet, everyone has their own favourite Joey memory.

“I’ll never forget our blurry-eyed first meeting, or the time an interview was completely derailed for us both to fanboy about the first Slipknot album.

“He had time for everyone, and we shouldn’t forget the time he gave us. He will always be the #1.”

OZZY OSBOURNE PAYS TRIBUTE

Ozzy Osbourne paid tribute to Jordison in a tweet last week.

The heavy metal singer and lead vocalist of Black Sabbath posted on Twitter: "Deeply saddened to hear about the passing of @JoeyJordison. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family, friends and fans."

 

 

FAMILY RELEASES STATEMENT

Jordison’s family told Billboard in a statement that he passed away peacefully in his sleep.

JORDISON HELPED FOUND SLIPKNOT IN 1995

Jordison formed the metal band in 1995 in his native state of Iowa.

He co-founded the band with bassist Paul Gray and percussionist Shawn Crahan and was with them until 2013 when the band said they parted ways with Jordison.

Jordison later claimed he was fired from the band in an interview in 2016.

Jordison announced he was diagnosed with transverse myelitis, a form of MS, just as he left the band.

That form of multiple sclerosis rendered him unable to play music.

MUSICIAN BLASTS RELEASE OF 911 AUDIO

French musician Frédéric Leclercq blasted the release of 911 audio about Joey Jordison's death.

Leclercq said he "refused to listen" to it and encouraged others to "ignore it," adding that it's not "gonna bring Joey back."

METALLICA RELEASED A NEW COLLAB WITH SLIPKNOT BANDMATE COREY TAYLOR

Hours before it was known Slipknot’s drummer and co-founder Joey Jordison had died at the age of 46, Metallica released a slew of new collaborations it had done with a number of artists including Mac DeMarco and Phoebe Bridgers.

Among the artists that collaborated with the iconic heavy metal band include Jordison’s bandmate Corey Taylor of Slipknot.

Metallica later posted a photo of Jordison saying “rip brother” after hearing the news of his passing.

WHAT IS TRANSVERSE MYELITIS?

Transverse myelitis is a condition that is caused by the inflammation of the spinal cord.

According to John Hopkins, the disease is characterized by, “symptoms and signs of neurologic dysfunction in motor and sensory tracts on both sides of the spinal cord. The involvement of motor and sensory control pathways frequently produce altered sensation, weakness and sometimes urinary or bowel dysfunction.”

The website lists the four classic symptoms as:

  • Weakness in arms/legs
  • Sensory symptoms, numbness/tingling
  • Pain and discomfort
  • Bladder dysfunction and/or bowel motility problems

The disease can affect anyone, no matter the gender or age group, and is sometimes associated with autoimmune disorders.
