Gillingham selling ‘OUT OF DATE’ alcohol for £2 at Priestfield during pre-season friendly with Millwall
GILLINGHAM left fans in stitches after brazenly selling 'out of date alcohol' for £2 a pop for their pre-season friendly against Millwall on Tuesday.
The League One side continued their 2021-22 preparations by hosting the Lions at Priestfield Stadium, with fans finally back inside the stadium.
After more than a year away due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Gills were thrilled to welcome supporters back - albeit for a friendly.
And it seems the club hoped the few fans in attendance would help get rid of some of the backlog of beer they've been unable to flog in the absence of match-day crowds.
Before the game had even kicked off, fans were swarming to Twitter to spread the word of the night's biggest highlight.
Many social media users shared a picture of the Gillingham kiosk brazenly admitting to selling expired booze.
A poster next to the bar read: "OUT OF DATE ALCOHOL. Discounted price. £2.00."
But rather than worry about what they were putting in their body, fans were instead loving the honesty from Priestfield staff.
One tweeted: "Fair play to Gillingham for selling 2 pound bottles of out of date booze."
Another joked: "Welcome to Gillingham."
A third, sharing a photo of the sign, added: "Haha. Respect..."
The match against Millwall was Gillingham's first home game of the pre-season schedule after a 3-3 draw away to Welling and a 2-0 win at Colchester.
And they were just moments away from winning too, having led 1-0 from the 13th minute thanks to a Kyle Dempsey goal.

But Jake Cooper equalised for Millwall with just four minutes to play to snatch a draw.
The Gills will next go up against Leyton Orient and Norwich before kicking off their League One campaign at home to Lincoln on August 7.
The Kent club finished tenth in League One last term, just seven points adrift of the playoff places.
