A star-studded lineup — including Bruce Springsteen, Elvis Costello and Jennifer Hudson — are set to perform at Central Park’s “Homecoming” concert, with New York officials announcing Tuesday that the event will require vaccinations for attendees.
Andrea Bocelli, country music star Kane Brown, rapper and actor LL Cool J, Earth, Wind & Fire, Paul Simon, Carlos Santana, The Killers, Wyclef Jean, actor Cynthia Erivo, “Tonight Show” host Jimmy Fallon, Journey, Barry Manilow, Rob Thomas, Kenny “Babyface” Edmonds, Jon Batiste, the New York Philharmonic, Patti Smith, CNN’s Don Lemon, Lucky Daye, rapper Polo G and CBS’s Gayle King are also among those poised to appear at the Aug. 21 “We Love NYC: The Homecoming Concert.”
New York Mayor Bill de Blasio (D) said Tuesday that the bash will be a “signal of our rebirth” for the Big Apple.
“This is going to go into the history books,” de Blasio said.
Organizers said ticket holders will need to show proof of COVID-19 vaccination to enter the outdoor concert. Masks will be optional for the Clive Davis and Live Nation-produced event.
“Everyone who wants to participate: Do the right thing. Get vaccinated so you can fully enjoy this amazing week,” de Blasio said.
The majority of tickets, 80 percent, will be free, according to organizers. The no-cost tickets, as well as VIP ones available for purchase, will be released in batches beginning Monday.
The concert will air worldwide on CNN, de Blasio announced.
“This is going to be an historic, monumental moment for all New Yorkers and all Americans,” the mayor said. “I’ll put it plainly: You’re going to want to be here. This is truly once-in-a-lifetime.”
The concert is one of several requiring vaccination proof amid the coronavirus pandemic. Last month, protesters demonstrated outside a Foo Fighters show in California due to a vaccine requirement to enter the venue.
