Team GB star Bianca Walkden breaks down in tears and claims she was ‘ROBBED’ after missing out on gold at Tokyo 2020

TAEKWONDO star Bianca Walkden was left in tears despite winning bronze at the Olympics.

The medal is Walkden's second bronze at the Olympics, having also finished third in the Women's +67kg class in Rio 2016.

But on this occasion Walkden, 29, was going for gold and felt she was the victim of a poor refereeing decision in her semi-final bout with Korean Lee Dabin.

After defeating Poland’s Aleksandra Kowalczuk 7-3 to claim bronze, Walkden told the BBC: "I am happy I got a medal and I would die trying until the end no matter what, even though it was so hard.

"I gave my soul before. I think I got a little bit robbed, I think it was a little iffy from the referee but I stayed calm and gave everything I could and still stayed in the game.

"At the end I was up, I was never going to go back I was always going to go forward and then I got grabbed and crescented and she didn't get a Gam-joem for it. There are no excuses.

"I was lucky to bring it back with all the circumstances going on and to come out and fight for the bronze again, it was soul-crushing.

"I just wanted to come out and be the champion I think I am.

"I hope the kids that are watching can take a little bit of inspiration from it, remember it's not about the colour it's about you being who you want to be, give your heart and soul and then you can come off the mat with your head held high and go after your dreams no matter what.

"Maybe one day I'll get a gold but today I'll come away with bronze."

Walkden was visibly upset but she got particularly emotional when speaking about inspiring the next generation.

And she could have the chance to do exactly that once again in three years time, at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

Team GB picked up three Taekwondo medals in this Olympiad with Bradley Sinden and Lauren Williams both winning silver.
