Cover picture for the articleI rarely saw my parents. My father had left for work by the time I got up to get ready for school. My mother pushed me out the door at 8:45 with a quick peck on the forehead, admonishing me to hurry up and not be late for the 9 a.m. school bell.

Back in the days of penny candy I think lots of kids had the same experience. I know I did. I hopped on my bike first thing in the morning and roamed all day, unsupervised. As long as I was home before the streetlights came on at night were no questions asked.

I don't see complaining but a comparison between his parents' style of parenting and today's parents. Nowadays it is a MUCH more dangerous world; the wise parents or persons take NOTHING for granted. Times have changed, and not for the better.
