NOT IN A HARRY

Harry Kane ‘will miss start of season’ whether or not £160m transfer to Man City goes through

HARRY KANE will miss the start of the Premier League season whether or not he stays at Tottenham, according to reports.

The 27-year-old England captain has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester City this summer.

And SunSport exclusively revealed on Friday that the Premier League champions are poised to make a £160million bid for the striker.

But irrespective of which club he is playing for in a few weeks time, The Telegraph are reporting that Kane will not be ready for the first match of the season.

Tottenham face Man City on the opening weekend of the 2021-22 Premier League campaign on Sunday, August 15.

However, Kane will be continuing his return to fitness when the two sides meet as he is yet to resume training following the European Championship.

The England skipper played 49 times for Spurs last season, missing very few matches despite suffering an ankle ligament injury towards the end of the campaign.

Without any sort of rest, he then went on to start all seven of England's Euro 2020 games, scoring four goals before they were beaten in heartbreaking fashion in the final by Italy.

As a result of his hectic 12 months, Kane is now enjoying some much-needed down time.

He has been on holiday with his family in the Caribbean and is scheduled to still be 'working on his fitness' when the beginning of the league season rolls around in three weeks time.

What every Tottenham player earns following Mourinho's pay rant

Kane has scored a remarkable 221 goals in 336 games for Tottenham since breaking through into the first team a decade ago.

Despite his susceptibility to a niggling injury, the striker has played 34 times or more in each of his last seven seasons for the Lilywhites.

But his dedication and level of performance for the club has not been repaid in the way of trophies.

Spurs have had a number of near-misses during Kane's time at the club.

They finished second in the Premier League in the 2016-17 season but lost out on the title to Chelsea.

They also went close to winning the league the previous year but could not catch surprise package Leicester City.

The major missed opportunity for Kane during Mauricio Pochettino's time as manager was when they were beaten 2-0 in the Champions League final by Liverpool in 2019.

And then last season Tottenham found themselves in the Carabao Cup final, but again fell short as they lost 1-0 to Man City.
