BIRMINGHAM — Federal agents from the U.S. Postal Inspection Service (USPIS), and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (ATF), joined the Alabama Law Enforcement Agency (ALEA), the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office, the Birmingham Police Department, and the Tarrant Police Department over the weekend to investigate the shooting of a letter carrier in Tarrant.
The person responsible could face up to 20 years in federal prison if convicted of the charge of “assaulting, resisting or impeding certain officers or employees. The USPIS said several other criminal charges may also be pursued.
Investigators said community tips are already helping in solving the case but agents believe there are more people with more information.
“It is possible that someone is still holding the key that will help bring all the other pieces together into a well-defined picture,” said U.S. Postal Inspector Tony Robinson.
Anyone with information is asked to call 877-876-2455 or to submit tips by going online to www.uspis.gov.
