Lane County Fair shooting: One hurt as gunfire erupts and sends crowds fleeing in terror
One person was hurt on Saturday as gunfire erupted and sent crowds fleeing in terror in Oregon.
The shooting took place at around 4pm local time at the Lane County Fairgrounds in Eugene.
According to the Eugene Police Department, 911 was contacted about shots fired at the Lane County Fairgrounds.
"Eugene Police responded and two people are in custody," Eugene police wrote in a tweet.
"Two others have what appear to be non-life threatening injuries."
A police investigation took place and the number of people injured was changed to one.
Eugene police wrote in a follow-up tweet: "One person was shot, not two.
"The injured person was shot in the arm and is being treated at a local hospital. All involved parties are accounted for and there is no ongoing threat to the public."
In footage shared to Twitter around the time of the shooting, a man is heard telling someone: "What the hell is going on? Hey, bro - Put your gun away, dude. Come on, put that away. Not cool bro."
In response to Eugene Police's first Twitter post, one social media user requested for updates.
The tweet read: "My wife and kids and I are stuck in our vehicle in the parking lot. Per the Sheriff’s employees, we are on lockdown."
Another Twitter user said the Lane County Fair was "swarming with cops and people running around crying."
A person claiming to be at the fair - "maybe 30 yards" from the shooting - replied in a tweet to KEZI9's Jaewon Jung and said people were "running and crying."
The witness called it "a very scary experience."
Another witness told local ABC-affiliate KEZI9 that a gunshot was fired when security got a hold of one of the subjects.
The bullet struck a nearby female in the arm after it ricocheted off the ground, the witness explained.
Additionally, Oregon resident Wesley Hicks told Fox News that security guards got involved once a fight broke out.
Hicks shared the original video of the incident to Facebook.
He wrote in the post: "Shooter at the Lane County Fair!
"Props to security for acting quickly and taking the shooter down!"
Hicks also shared a photo of security at the scene.
Shortly after the incident, a reporter for KEZI9 said the "fairgrounds are now reopening."

Police confirmed that "The Lane County Fair" was still open, however, there was a "roped-off crime scene."
